Strive for success, strive for the best just be sure not to settle for less.

There will be bumps, long roads and even dead ends.

But that will be when your real journey begins.

Do it alone, Do whatever it takes, just beware of the decisions you make.

No friends, No supporters, no one that believes, as long as you do, that’s the strength your heart needs.

You don’t have to believe in me, my business or my goals

Just sit back and relax and watch my story unfold…

Detroit’s 2nd Annual Bike Weekend May 29-31,2009

Who covered it?

Wendy Clem

Detroit City Buzz Examiner

Things are gearing up for a roaring good time to be had this May with Detroit's 2nd Annual Black Bike Weekend - and thanks to such a long winter, reserving plans for warmer weather couldn't come at a better time.

"The BBW is back by popular demand," said weekend promoter Necie Williams. "And this year we expect a huge increase, as would-be Daytona and Myrtle Beachers are now coming to Detroit, since those Bike Weeks have been cancelled."

Williams is president of Platinum Elite Events, LLC, the event's planners. One of her primary goals is to also promote Detroit in a positive light.

Riders from at least seven other states are already registered, and include female as well as male participants.

"This event is for ALL metro-Detroit Riders - NOT just black riders - to come out and represent their clubs and have some great fun," she said. Individual riders are just as welcome, she is quick to add.

Williams wants to get the word out to all Detroiters; already Chicago's biker registrations outnumber Motown's.

The Sexiest Chest Contest features the men.

The weekend kicks off with a Meet & Greet on May 29, bringing food, beer, games and contests to town. A group picnic on May 30 at Hines Park (Warrendale Shelter) features dunk tanks, jousting and boxing, and contests for best bike and clubs. Competitions include sexiest chest for the men and homage to the gluteus maximus for women with the Double Bubble bout.

"Chi-Town has put a smash down on Detroit as far as registered attendees right now!" said Williams, who wants Detroit to at least assert itself in its own backyard.

Individuals and clubs are all welcome.

The BBW stretches through a group Ride-Out on May 31, and accepts several major credit cards for advance registrations. Southfield's Embassy Suites is offering a special room rate with extra perks for a limited time.

*****Special Note from Platinum Elite Events, LLC*****

Special thanks to 7-Up Detroit, Pars Ice Cream, Absopure Water Co. and Metromix for the in-kind donations made to Detroit Bike Weekend. I cannot express to you the appreciation in my heart for your assistance. Thank you for helping a single minority woman business owner put on this event for my hometown, The City of Detroit. We were blessed to have riders come from Chicago, Toledo, Cleveland, Indiana and as far as Rochester, NY! This event was certainly a blessing for our city so much so that area hotels are already requesting our presence at their facilities for next year’s event.

Note from the President:

“Not only did I do a positive thing for my city, It was executed with pride and with no media support and we still had a turn out of more than 300 riders. I am very happy that I was able to deliver and I look forward to it again next year!”  Necie Williams, President

Williams' power has been off since Tuesday. She spent four hours at The Hub on Thursday answering emails, and returned today for internet access and power for her laptop and Zharia's game.
